Edinburgh: We arrive and are piped in to dinner

Most of today was spent driving from Galway to the Dublin airport, flying to Edinburgh, and traveling into the city to our very centrally located hotel, the Fraser Suites. I was fortunate to have this view from my window: over the Princes Street Gardens to the Sir Walter Scott memorial.

At sunset, we walked down (and up) the hill to the restaurant where we were to have dinner.

A piper awaited us just outside the restaurant, and piped us in to dinner.

He explained about his whisky flask as he enjoyed a wee nip before beginning to play.

Things got pretty loud in the confines of the restaurant. We could understand why the pipes are played on the battlefield.

We walked back to the hotel after an excellent dinner, passing the Sir Walter Scott memorial along the way.

The GPS log of our trip is dominated by the drive in from the airport.  I didn't record a log for the Irish part of today's journey; it was just a straight trip on the motorway from Galway to Dublin airport.

Here's where the photos in Edinburgh were taken.

Tomorrow, a walking tour of Edinburgh.
